Let's Get Ready to Rumble!

MD Anderson had the final demolition of one of their buildings scheduled for 7:30am yesterday. A group of 7 of us decided to get together and watch. I woke up bright and early at 6:45am, made coffee and made a few wake up calls.

We all gathered at about 7:10am at a friend's apartment complex. From their balcony we had a clear shot of the 20-story building. But at 7:10am, it looked like this...

Yup, no building in sight. We had crazy thick fog and 97% humidity yesterday morning. Insane. We kept updated with the local news, twitter and their live feed. MD Anderson kept delaying the demolition every hour until finally the fog rolled away and they set it for 11:15am.

We got way pumped, got our cameras ready and pondered how we would know when the implosion would start. At precisely 11:15am...

IT WAS AWESOME!

It gave us all the craziest adrenaline rush. And we talked about it and watched the video on repeat for like 15 mins. *nerd alert!*

I drove by the site a couple hours later to see the damage.

That small-ish heap used to be a 20-story building. When it was built in the 1950's it was the tallest building in the Texas Medical Center. And now, it's rubble. Kinda sad. Kinda awesome.

Here is a better video along with a short article from the Culture Map.

Eats for the day:

Whole wheat bagel, peanut butter and banana slices

Veggie burger on sprouted wheat bread, carrots and a honeycrisp

Back to Nature Creme Sandwich cookies (x2)

I ended up not eating dinner because of a random wave of nausea that hit around 6pm. I sipped water and got in bed early. Luckily, the late lunch kept me super full and I didn't have to attempt sleep on an empty stomach. Yay for complex carbs!
