Oven Workout

Last night, I stayed in and decided to give my oven a workout. I made seitan, banana bread and roasted butternut squash. Let's start with the seitan.

Seitan is a Japanese dish of cooked vital wheat gluten. It is used as a meat substitute in a lot of vegan/vegetarian diets. I've only ever had it at restaurants and until now, haven't really experimented with it at home. However, the high protein content (and low fat content) made it appealing. I considered buying some, but the pricetag made me think twice. Instead, I made it myself.

Sure, it doesn't look all that appealing, but the flavor was awesome.

The procedure was fairly simple too. It took all of 5 mins from bowl to oven.

Next up, I decided to use up some ripe bananas to make banana bread.

Enough said.

I also roasted some butternut squash. But, we don't need to talk about that.

All in all, it was a pretty awesome Friday night.
