Navrathri 2011

Forgive me, I've been MIA this past weekend. But, I have a really good excuse. This weekend was Navrathri. It's a nine day festival where we celebrate the Goddesses Lakshmi (wealth), Saraswathi (learning) and Durga (bravery). There is a huge cultural component to this festival in addition to the religious aspect. I obviously couldn't miss out and headed to Austin the minute work ended on Friday, which by the way was past 6:30pm.

On Saturday, my mom and I got dressed and headed out to make the rounds. We went to four houses and payed our respects. It was really fun catching up with people. Navrathri gives me the opportunity to see some family friends that I hardly see now that I live in Houston.

On Sunday, my family hosted our get together. We had about 50 people pop in, have a chat and eat some food. I even got to catch up with some high school friends that I haven't seen in years.

Also, this weekend marked the first time I wore a sari! I felt really grown up in a saree. I guess it was about time.

And, before my dad calls me to complain that both pics are with my mom...
