Celebrations & Getting Back to a Routine

I love vacation. I love sleeping in, having no agenda and staying in pajamas all day. The lack of structure is exhilarating...for about a day. And then, it's just plain lazy.

Well, over the break I accepted a job offer! Post-graduation I will be working in a large hospital in Houston. When I realized that I was in the middle of my last spring break, I decided to roll with the laziness. Why not, right?

This meant a lot of Indian food (three cheers for homecooked food!) and a fair amount of dinners out. My family and I were basically in a constant state of celebration for three days. Gluttony anyone?

A delicious and superbly nutritious meal did sneak in there somewhere, courtesy of Casa de Luz (in Austin) and Shubha Aunty.

Other than that, I basically pretended to be healthy while eating dosas and candy with a side of green smoothies. That's OK though. Stuff like this is bound to happen. Although I'm not thrilled with some food decisions I made over the past week, I'm not angry at myself either. (That's some major growth right there!) You can't control everything. Life gets in the way. Sometimes thick slices of herb bread with Earth Balance replaces giant salads with dark, leafy greens. Oh well. You just have to try to make the best choices with the knowledge and resources you have. The tricky part is making the best choice every time (or at least most of the time).

I'm looking forward to falling back into my routine. To be honest, falling back into the routine won't happen until next Monday. My friend, Vinu, is in town for a few days and we have quite the weekend planned. However, that doesn't mean throwing judgment out the window. Nutritious food choices ahead!
